The Macallan Edition No. 2 Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a limited 2016 Speyside release: master whisky maker Bob Dalgarno and the three Roca brothers of El Celler de Can Roca each chose casks from four Spanish bodegas — seven oak types in all — so dried fruit, toffee apple, and ginger sit beside vanilla and tropical fruit. Bottled at 96.4 proof (48.2% ABV). Save it for a rainy-night pour.
Treacle, ginger, and toffee apple lead, with rich fruit and vanilla opening into tropical fruit. Cracked black pepper, clove, chocolate, and brown sugar stand out on the palate with nuts and liquorice; the finish is full, slow, warm, and viscous.
