Maker's Mark 2021 Limited Release Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is the Wood Finishing Series FAE-01 from Loretto: fully matured Maker's Mark finished in a second barrel with ten American oak staves seared on one side and left raw on the other, then rested in the limestone cellar and bottled at 110.4 proof. The charred face pulls tobacco and warehouse wood; the raw face pulls dried fruit and cream from the fatty acid esters Maker's keeps by never chill-filtering. This is a limited Wood Finishing Series bottle. Use it in a spirit-forward cocktail.
Dried dark fruit, fig, and tobacco lead, with maple and vanilla behind them. The body is creamy and coating at cask strength. Barrel extract and a lingering roundness stand out on the palate after the heat settles.
