5 Sentidos Sierra Negra Mezcal
Oaxaca is the heart of mezcal country, and this bottle comes from there with its methods intact: agave roasted in an earthen pit, then distilled by hand. The agave here is Sierra Negra, and the pit roasting is what puts smoke in the spirit — not a barrel, not an additive. It is bottled additive free.
Dark fruit sits at the front, ripe and a little dusty, with leather and tobacco underneath giving it weight. Roasted agave runs through the whole thing, sweet and vegetal at once, and the finish turns dry and mineral with smoke trailing behind it. There is real texture to it, the kind that coats rather than cuts.
Drink it neat at room temperature in a small cup, the way it is taken in Oaxaca. 750 mL.
