Mortlach Rare Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the 2014 Dufftown bottling, now discontinued, at the old American-export strength of 86.8 proof. The same 2.81-times distillation sits underneath, vatted from first-fill and refill bourbon casks, heavily charred hogsheads, and sherry-seasoned European oak — a four-wood mix that shows dried fruit and spice without an age statement. A leftover of that limited range. Pour it as an after-dinner dram.
Dried fruit, vanilla, and dark chocolate stand out, with fruitcake, cinnamon, and fennel spice in the middle. The body is oily and round. Cherry, toasted wood, and cacao hang on a medium, earthy finish.
