Booker’s The Reserves 2025 Tequila Barrel Finished Bourbon Whiskey
Caramel comes through first, thick and warm, with vanilla behind it and a thread of roasted agave that gives this Kentucky bourbon its unusual turn. Nine years in barrel built the backbone; a finishing period in El Tesoro tequila barrels bent it somewhere new.
Bottled uncut at 123.3 proof (61.7% ABV), the texture is dense and oily rather than hot, and it holds its shape against ice. Mature oak sits underneath everything, dry and tannic, while baking spice and black pepper sharpen the back end. The agave note lingers longest, faintly vegetal and sweet at once, which is what separates this from a straight barrel-proof pour.
Distilled in 2025 and offered in the 750 mL bottle. A few drops of water open the caramel further without flattening the spice, though there is enough going on to justify a first sip neat.
