The Yamazaki Distiller's Reserve Japanese Single Malt Whisky is Yamazaki's no-age-statement single malt from the Osaka distillery, vatted for fruit and spice rather than a number on the label. Bordeaux wine casks lift strawberry and raspberry; sherry, American, and Mizunara oak add cherry, coconut, and a cinnamon close, with a thread of peated malt in the blend. Bottled at 86 proof (43% ABV). A weeknight pour.
Strawberry and cherry open, with Mizunara spice underneath. Raspberry, white peach, and coconut stand out on the palate; the sip is gold and silky, and the finish is clean on sweet vanilla and cinnamon.
