Garrison Brothers makes straight bourbon in the Texas Hill Country, where hot summers push the whiskey hard into new American white oak. This is a single barrel, chosen for us, so what's in the bottle came from one cask rather than a batch blended to a house standard.
Caramel and vanilla lead, thick and sweet without turning syrupy. Underneath there's dark cherry and a dry note of leather that keeps the sweetness in check. Baking spice warms the back end, and toasted oak lingers after the swallow. At 94 proof it drinks easily neat, though it holds up fine over ice.
A straightforward, sturdy pour at 750 mL. Good for a weeknight glass or the base of an old fashioned, where the caramel and spice do most of the work without needing much help.
