Green River “Good News” Single Barrel Bourbon Whiskey
Green River “Good News” Single Barrel Bourbon Whiskey is one cask of the Owensboro rye-forward mash — 70% corn, 21% rye, 9% malted barley — aged at least five years in Green River's historic clay-tile warehouses and bottled at cask strength. The distillery, licensed in 1885 and revived on the original riverfront grounds, leaves these barrels unblended so rickhouse heat and that one piece of wood set the proof. Good News is this barrel's name. Keep a large cube in the glass and let it open.
Green River's single-barrel profile runs orange peel, spearmint, and black pepper over vanilla and graham cracker, with caramel, chocolate-coated peppermint, dried cherry, and light leather behind it. The close is medium: rye spice, herbal tea, and soft oak on a rich, lingering mouthfeel. It drinks like a rye-spice bourbon that still has sweetness to spend.
