Michter’s US1 Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon Whiskey
This is bourbon finished for sweetness rather than bite. After its first maturation, the whiskey moves into a second barrel that is toasted rather than charred, built from wood air-dried for 18 months. That slow toasting coaxes out sugars in the oak instead of scorching them, and the result is a Kentucky bourbon with a soft, dessert-leaning edge.
Vanilla and marshmallow lead, warm and almost confectionary, with baked pear sitting just behind them. Pecan brings a dry, nutty weight that keeps the sweetness honest, and a curl of campfire smoke runs underneath the whole pour. Cinnamon lingers longest, dusting a finish that stays gentle at 91.4 proof (45.7% ABV).
The 2024 release comes in a 750 mL bottle. It has enough presence to drink neat on a cold evening, and enough sweetness to make an unusually good Old Fashioned when you want one.
