Number Juan Juan in a Million Extra Añejo Tequila
More than nine years in retired American white oak bourbon barrels is a long time for any tequila, and this extra añejo wears it well. The Blue Weber agave comes from Los Valles in Jalisco, and even after that stretch in wood, the cooked agave still holds the center of the spirit rather than disappearing beneath it.
Caramel and vanilla sit close together on the palate, soft and rounded at 80 proof (40% ABV). Underneath runs a seam of dark fruit that gives the whole thing weight. Toasted oak and baking spice arrive late and stay a while, dry where the opening was sweet.
Bottles of this age are not made in quantity, and this one turns up only occasionally. Serve it neat in something with a little room, at cellar temperature or just above. The 750 mL bottle is best treated as sipping tequila and nothing else.
