Angel's Envy built its name on finishing bourbon in wine casks, and this 2021 release from Kentucky spends its final stretch in Madeira casks. The result is a bourbon with real weight to it: caramel comes through thick and dark, with raisin sitting just beneath, sweet and a little wrinkled at the edges.
Vanilla softens the whole thing without making it cloying, and there's a walnut dryness that keeps the sweetness in check. Toasted oak lingers on the finish alongside a last trace of Madeira. At 100 proof, it drinks fuller than the number suggests, coating the mouth rather than cutting through it.
