Jamaica's Nassau Valley sits inland, warm and green, and the rum made there carries that heat in its character. This one was distilled in 1994 on a pot still and spent 26 years in American oak, a long stretch anywhere but especially in the tropics, where the climate pulls flavor from the wood far faster than a cooler cellar would.
Ripe banana and mango come through with the sweetness of fruit left on the tree a day too long, and orange peel cuts across them with something brighter. Underneath sits molasses, dark and slightly bitter, shading into cocoa and coffee as the seasoned oak takes hold on the finish. At 120 proof it is full cask strength, thick on the tongue and generous with its oils.
