Barrell Cask Strength Rye Whiskey

Barrell Cask Strength Rye Whiskey is Barrell Craft Spirits’ numbered rye, blended in Louisville from straight rye whiskeys. Indiana, Tennessee, and Kentucky barrels are the usual core. Some batches also fold in Canadian or Polish rye when the blender wants a drier herbal streak. Ages commonly run from about 4 years into the mid-teens, in American oak, and each batch leaves the warehouse at its own cask strength.

Mint, citrus peel, caramel, dark fruit, black pepper, and rye spice are the notes that overlap from batch to batch, with oak under them. The Whiskey Jug’s Batch 003 tasted rye bread, dried cherry, menthol, lime zest, and caramel. Bourbon Culture found peppermint, orange oil, and black pepper on that batch. The sip is spicy and oily, and the finish runs long toward mint and dry oak.
