Basil Hayden 10 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey keeps Beam’s high-rye mash — 63% corn, 27% rye, and 10% malted barley — in newly charred American oak for 10 years, then bottles it at 80 proof. That extra time is what you taste: oak, char, and caramel settle around the rye spice. James B. Beam Distilling Co. in Clermont first shipped it in 2018 as a once-a-year bottle; since 2024 it has been available year-round, and the whiskey in the bottle is the same.
Big oak and a hint of char lead, with vanilla, rye spice, and caramel sweetness behind them. Honey shows up as the glass opens. The mouthfeel stays light, and the finish warms with cinnamon and that same char.
