Rye whiskey usually leads with spice, and this Kentucky straight rye does — but a finishing run in Madeira casks pulls it somewhere warmer and fruitier than most. Aged over 6 years and bottled at cask strength, it drinks with the weight you'd expect from an undiluted barrel proof pour, without turning hot or narrow.
Rhubarb gives the first sip a bright, tart edge that brown sugar quickly rounds off. Underneath sits vanilla and a soft caramel sweetness, while mint threads through and keeps things lively. The finish leans dry: cinnamon, then dark walnut, holding on longer than the sweetness does.
At 107.9 proof (54% ABV), this is a rye that stands up in a stirred cocktail as readily as it does on its own. The whiskey was distilled in 2021 and comes in a 750 mL bottle.
