Buckner’s 15 Year Old Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Kentucky gives this bourbon its shape: fifteen years in a single new charred American oak barrel, drawn one cask at a time rather than blended into a batch. The extra years show in the color and in the weight of the whiskey on the tongue, which is thick without turning syrupy.
Dark cherry leads, ripe and a little jammy, with caramel and vanilla settling in behind it. Underneath sits the older, drier side of long maturation — tobacco leaf, worn leather, and mature oak that has softened into something warm rather than bitter. Bottled at cask strength, it carries real heat, but the sweetness holds its ground and nothing feels stripped down.
This is a bourbon worth pouring on a Tuesday as readily as a holiday. A few drops of dilution will open the cherry further if you want it gentler. The 750 mL bottle is one barrel's work, so no two are quite alike.
