Compass Box Art & Decadence Blended Scotch Whisky
Six kinds of fortified and dessert wine casks went into this blend: Sauternes, Marsala, Madeira, Oloroso, Palo Cortado and refill sherry. That breadth of wood is unusual, and it shows in a whisky that reads sweet without turning sticky, with dried fruit and bakery warmth pulling in the same direction.
Honey and apricot lead, soft and rounded, with almond underneath giving the sweetness something to lean against. Brioche and toffee fill out the body, and there is a clean apple brightness that keeps the whole thing from settling. Golden raisin and spice hold the finish, which runs longer than the gentle opening suggests. At 98 proof (49% ABV), it has real presence but stays easy to drink.
A 750 mL bottle from the 2023 release, drawn from distilleries across Scotland rather than a single region. Caramel richness makes it a good after-dinner pour, and it takes a small splash well if you want the fruit to open further.
