Compass Box Delos Blended Scotch Whisky
Pour this one neat and it opens quickly: ripe pear and pineapple up front, bright and generous, with orange oil lifting the edges. Underneath sits vanilla cream, soft and rounded, and a whisper of white chocolate that keeps the fruit from turning sharp. At 98 proof (49% ABV) it has real presence without heat, and a single large cube stretches the tropical side further still.
This is a blend of mature malt and grain whiskies drawn from across Scotland, married together in American oak. That marrying period is what gives the whisky its seamless texture, where the grain adds silk and the malt carries the weight.
The finish turns warmer and a little exotic, guava and chai spice trailing off slowly. It is a whisky that suits a quiet evening as easily as it suits company. The 2022 release comes in a 750 mL bottle.
