Crown Royal Black Blended Canadian Whisky is the darker, higher-proof Crown Royal, matured in charred oak and bottled at 90 proof. Extra char and the extra five points of proof are what push maple, dried fruit, and a bourbon-leaning oak in front of the usual Deluxe creaminess. It is an ongoing blend from Gimli, not the 18-year Extra Rare and not a flavored whisky.
Sweet maple and vanilla meet dried fig and caramel. Charred oak, cinnamon, and black pepper sit underneath and stay through the sip. The mouthfeel is creamy and heavier than Deluxe. The finish is warm and smoldering, still maple, still oak.
