Garrison Brothers Sonora 7 Year Old Rye Barrel Finished Texas Straight Bourbon Whiskey 108 Proof
Seven years in new American oak came first, then a second rest in rye whiskey barrels — long enough for the Texas Hill Country heat to push the spirit deep into the wood and long enough for the rye casks to leave their mark. That two-stage maturation is the whole story here, and you can taste both halves of it.
Sweet corn and vanilla lead, thick and easygoing, with butterscotch settling in behind them. A bright thread of citrus keeps it from turning heavy, and honey rounds the edges. The finish is where the rye barrels speak up: peppery spice and toasted oak, warm and dry, holding on well past the swallow.
At 108 proof, this bourbon has the weight for a big cube without going watery, though it drinks well straight from the bottle if you like some heat. A 750 mL bottle of whiskey distilled in 2025.
