Glenmorangie Sherry Wood 12 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is one of the distillery’s early extra-matured bottlings from Tain: twelve years that start in American oak and finish in selected sherry butts. Launched in 1996 as part of Glenmorangie’s wood-finish programme, it is a discontinued 86-proof Highland malt whose sherry reads earthy and tannic as much as sweet. Pour it in cold weather, when dried fruit and leather belong in the glass.
Sherry sweetness meets earthy malt and leather. Dried dark fruit and cinnamon sit on a lightly drying palate, with cocoa, roasted nut, and oak keeping the sugar in check. The finish runs medium-long — graham, brown sugar, then a musty, warming earthiness that makes the next sip feel earned.
