Green Spot Quails’ Gate Pinot Noir Cask Finish Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey
Single pot still is the style Ireland does best: whiskey made from a mash of malted and unmalted barley, distilled in pot stills, with a creamy weight and a faint spice you won't find in a lighter blend. This one from County Cork spends its final 16 months in Quails' Gate Pinot Noir casks, and the red wine influence shows up as orchard fruit rather than heaviness.
Red apple and pear lead, clean and juicy, with a tart edge of cranberry running underneath. Vanilla softens things as it goes, and the close brings nutmeg alongside toasted oak. At 92 proof (46% ABV) it has enough grip to stay interesting neat, but it takes a cube well and doesn't fall apart.
An easy bottle to keep on the shelf and reach for without ceremony. The 750 mL is the size most people will want for regular pouring.
