Bottled at 107 proof, this Kentucky straight bourbon spent over nine years in new charred American oak, some of it heavy char. That extra char shows in the weight of the whiskey: dense, dark and sweet, with caramel and molasses sitting close together from the first sip.
Cherry cuts through the sweetness and keeps things from turning syrupy. Underneath, chocolate and toasted spice give the palate its grip, and the finish leans warm and woody with a trace of maple. Vanilla runs through all of it, softening the edges without dulling the proof.
The strength is high enough to stand up to ice without washing out, and generous enough neat if you like your bourbon with some heat behind it.
