Heaven Hill Grain to Glass Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey is the 2024 first edition: Beck's 6158 corn in a mash of 63 percent rye, 24 percent corn, and 13 percent malted barley, distilled at Bernheim in 2017 and aged six years in new charred oak at Cox's Creek. Heaven Hill bottled this one at barrel proof, 123.2, without chill filtration — enough strength for the grain and mint to stay loud after ice or vermouth. The seed, mashbill, and distillation year are on the label. Build a spirit-forward cocktail with it.
Butterscotch and caramel open against dried flowers, wintergreen, and toasted oak. Cinnamon, clove, and black pepper build through a full body, with leather and dark chocolate underneath. The finish is long and warming: charred oak, mint, and a last of campfire spice.
