Eleven years, bottled at cask strength: 111 proof (55.5% ABV), undiluted and unhurried. This wheated Kentucky bourbon spent its final stretch in Islay Scotch casks, and that finish leaves an unmistakable trace of campfire smoke curling through the whiskey.
Toasted marshmallow leads, sweet and slightly scorched at the edges, with sugar plum and marzipan sitting beneath it. Leather comes later, dry and worn, and the smoke never fully lifts. Tobacco and cedar close things out on the long, warm finish that a wheated mash at this strength delivers without harshness.
A cask-strength bourbon of this age with an Islay finish does not come around often, and the 750 mL bottles move quickly. Distilled in 2022. A single large cube tames the proof a shade without dulling the smoke, though it stands up perfectly well on its own.
