Hibiki Japanese Harmony 100th Anniversary Edition Blended Japanese Whisky

Hibiki Japanese Harmony is a blend built for balance. Malt and grain whiskies drawn from across Japan come together after maturation in American oak, sherry casks and Mizunara, the Japanese oak that lends this whisky its particular perfume. The 2023 release marks a centenary year, and the bottle carries the fluted, faceted shape Hibiki is known for.

Rose and lychee open the nose with a floral lift that is unmistakably Japanese. Honey and ripe peach follow on the palate, soft and rounded at 86 proof (43% ABV), with candied orange brightening the edges. Underneath sits white chocolate, and the finish turns gently spiced, cinnamon warming into the sandalwood-incense character that Mizunara gives.

This is an approachable whisky that rewards attention without demanding it. Neat it shows its floral side best, though it makes a graceful highball with cold soda over ice. The 750 mL bottle looks as good on the shelf as it drinks.
