Orkney sits far enough north that the weather shapes everything made there, and this single malt carries that island character without making a fuss about it. Fifteen years in sherry-seasoned European and American oak, with refill casks in the mix, have kept the whisky bright rather than heavy.
Heather honey runs through the whole pour, sweet but not sticky. Pineapple and lemon lift the aroma, and there is enough vanilla underneath to round the edges. Cinnamon warms the back palate, where a soft, aromatic peat drifts in — smoke as seasoning rather than the main event.
At 88 proof (44% ABV) it drinks easily on its own, and it holds up in a highball if that is how you take your Scotch. The 750 mL bottle is a sensible one to keep open on the shelf: approachable enough for a weeknight dram, interesting enough to hand to someone who thinks they don't like Island whisky.
