Highland Park 18 Year Old Viking Pride Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the distillery's most awarded core malt: eighteen years with a higher share of first-fill sherry-seasoned European oak, rounded with American-oak sherry casks and refill wood, bottled at 86 proof. F. Paul Pacult named it Best Spirit in the World more than once. The extra first-fill European oak is the dried fruit and spice you taste after nearly two decades in Kirkwall's cool warehouses. Baked cherry, dark chocolate, salted honeycomb, and orange zest ride a light, aromatic peat. The palate is rich and caramelised, then lingering, sweet-spicy, and slightly nutty, with toffee and marzipan in the mix. Whisky Advocate scored a 2019 batch 92 for Christmas-cake spice, milk chocolate, caramel, and strawberry jam. It drinks full and polished, smoke as a whisper.
