Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Special Release Tanyard Hill Barrel Proof Rye Whiskey is Lynchburg’s 2025 limited annual release: Tennessee rye barreled in November 2015 and aged nearly a decade on the top floors of Barrel House 1, a 1960s rickhouse on Tanyard Hill beside Coy Hill. The mash is 70% rye, 18% corn, and 12% malted barley, charcoal-mellowed on a short maple-charcoal run before new charred American oak — those upper ricks concentrate dark fruit, mint, and chocolate instead of thinning the grain. Each bottle is a single barrel at barrel proof, from 130.2 to 148.8, in a 700 mL bottle. This is a cold-weather pour.
Dark fruit — plum, fig, cherry — and sweet oak open the glass, then candied mint and dark chocolate ride the sip with baking spice. The mouthfeel is thick and oily; clove, sweet tobacco, and leather close a long oak finish without the ethanol covering the rye. It drinks dense and savory-sweet, a high-proof rye that holds its shape in a small glass.
