Jack Daniel’s Twice Barreled Special Release Heritage Barrel Rye Whiskey is the 2023 limited Single Barrel Special Release: 70% rye, 18% corn, and 12% malted barley, charcoal-mellowed, aged at least five years in new American oak, then more than two years in high-toast, light-char Heritage barrels from the Jack Daniel Cooperage. That second wood is the point — slow toast pulls honey, graham cracker, and brown sugar from the oak while the rye stays in the grain. Bottled at 100 proof. Pour it over a large cube.
Toasted oak, honey, and vanilla open into rye bread, molasses, and cinnamon-sugar baking spice. The palate is rich and dry rather than hot; graham cracker and brown sugar sit against leather and a lightly tannic close. It drinks toast-forward and dessert-spiced, a rye that finishes like toasted cereal and oak.
