Jefferson’s Marian McLain Blend of Straight Bourbon Whiskeys
Honey comes first, warm and thick, with toasted coconut just behind it and a whiff of grilled pineapple that keeps things bright. Underneath sits something richer: chocolate, a curl of tobacco, and the tannic edge of black tea on the finish. Ginger flickers through and keeps the sweetness honest.
This is a blend of five aged whiskeys, one of them a double-barreled bourbon, and the marriage shows in the texture. It drinks fuller than most Kentucky bourbons at this strength, with a soft, almost pastry-like weight to it that the waffle note names exactly. At 102 proof there is real backbone, but nothing sharp or hot about the way it lands.
Good with a single large cube, which pulls the coconut and chocolate forward without flattening the spice. The 750 mL bottle is the kind you open on a Thursday and are still glad about on Sunday.
