Jefferson’s Reserve Pritchard Hill Cabernet Cask Finished Bourbon Whiskey is Trey Zoeller’s limited Napa finish: a blend of three Kentucky straight bourbons aged in new American oak, then rested twelve months in French oak that held Pritchard Hill Cabernet Sauvignon from Chappellet’s high-elevation St. Helena vineyard. Those wine casks are why blackberry, cherry, and dark chocolate show up on the bourbon, and why a dry tannin snap follows the fruit, bottled at 90.2 proof. Save it for an after-dinner dram.
Blackberry and black cherry lead, with licorice and leather behind them. Dates, apricot, and buttery pastry fill a medium sip, then espresso and baking spice. The finish runs long and dry, with chocolate and wine tannin holding the sweetness in place.
