First-fill sherry-seasoned casks do most of the shaping here, with an American oak ex-bourbon finish rounding things off. Fifteen years is the youngest whisky in the blend, and that time shows in the weight rather than in any sharp edges. The Speyside character stays clear through it all.
Vanilla comes through soft and sweet, sitting alongside dark fruit that leans toward raisin and stewed plum. Baking spice runs underneath, warm but not hot. Toward the end there is leather and a dry note of tobacco and polished oak, which keeps the sweetness from turning heavy.
At 92 proof (46% ABV) it has more grip than a standard blend, so it holds up fine over ice without going flat. This is an easy bottle to keep on the shelf and pour on a weeknight. It comes in the 750 mL size.
