Kentucky Owl Takumi Edition Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is a limited blend built the Japanese way: John Rhea sent four-, five-, six-, and thirteen-year Kentucky stocks — rye- and wheat-mash bourbons from undisclosed Kentucky stills — to Yusuke Yahisa at Nagahama Distillery, who married them as ingredients toward one balanced pour. Bottled at 100 proof, it earned 97 points from Tasting Panel. Pour it after dinner and let the blend settle in the glass.
Buttery rye bread and caramel lead, with cinnamon riding into apple and pear. Seasoned oak and a thread of raisin keep it savory rather than dessert-sweet. The mouthfeel is satiny and chewy, the finish long and even — spice rising, then tapering without a shout.
