Kilchoman Sanaig Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky takes its name from a rocky Atlantic inlet near the distillery. The vatting is about 70% oloroso sherry casks and 30% bourbon barrels, peated to 50 ppm and bottled at 92 proof, matured on the island. That sherry share loads dried fruit, toffee, and dark chocolate onto Kilchoman citrus and peat. Ultimate Spirits Challenge called it Best Islay Whisky in 2020. Pour it when friends stay for another round.
Heather, raisin, and orange peel meet plum and red cherry, then barbecue peat, toffee, and dark chocolate. The texture is mouth-coating. Cinnamon, clove, and brown sugar hang with smoke on a sweet, lasting close.
