Kilkerran 8 Year Old Cask Strength Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Peat smoke drifts up first, thinner and saltier than you might expect, with citrus cutting through behind it. Underneath sits dark fruit and a soft line of vanilla, and the finish turns briny and spiced, the sort of maritime edge Campbeltown is known for.
This is an eight year old single malt matured in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks, bottled at cask strength with nothing taken off the proof. That undiluted strength gives it real weight on the tongue, and it holds up well against a drop or two of dilution if you want the fruit to come forward.
Nothing about it is fussy. It is a straightforward, well-made everyday dram in a 700 mL bottle, smoky enough to satisfy anyone who leans that way but balanced enough not to wear you out over an evening.
