Laphroaig 30 Year Old Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Laphroaig 30 Year Old The Ian Hunter Story Book 1: Unique Character is a limited 2019 chapter from the Islay distillery, distilled in 1987 and matured solely in first-fill American white oak ex-bourbon barrels — the wood Ian Hunter, last of the Johnston family to run Laphroaig, brought into the warehouse. Only 4,800 bottles were filled, non-chill-filtered, at 93.4 proof (46.7% ABV). Three decades in first-fill bourbon is what you taste as honey, vanilla, and orchard fruit, with the peat gentled rather than gone. Save it for a special-occasion pour.
Honey, peach, and apricot ride the sip with vanilla and creamy liquorice. Sea salt and a light iodine note keep it coastal, and gentle peat smoke stays in the background through a long, rounded finish. It drinks mature and composed, with enough sweetness to make the smoke feel like a close.
