Blended straight whiskey covers a lot of ground, and this one goes further than most: an 8-year Kentucky rye sits alongside a 13-year Canadian rye and a Canadian whisky that spent 40 years in barrel. Three components, three very different ages, poured together into a single glass without being smoothed out afterward.
Caramel comes through sweet and thick, with dark fruit underneath it. Rye spice cuts across the top, and there's a worn leather note that only long-aged whiskey tends to give. Seasoned oak and baking spice trail the finish, dry rather than sugary.
It's bottled at cask strength, 118.8 proof (59.4% ABV), so the whiskey arrives undiluted and full-bodied. That's plenty of intensity for a whiskey this old, and a few drops of dilution will open up the fruit without flattening the spice. Distilled in 2018 and bottled in a 750 mL.
