Mars Iwai Tradition Blended Japanese Whisky is Hombo Shuzo’s tribute to Kiichiro Iwai: Japanese malt from the Iwai pot stills at Mars Komagatake in Nagano, blended with grain whisky, matured in ex-bourbon, sherry, and wine casks, and bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV). The mixed casks are what you taste as honeyed malt, dried fruit, and a thread of ginger spice. This is a weeknight pour.
Ripe cherry, honey toffee, and wildflower honey lead, with clove, cinnamon, and a faint earthy peat in the background. The sip is soft and malt-driven — nougat, milk chocolate, caramel — then ginger spice and a clean, medium finish.
