Meiyo 17 Year Old Japanese Whisky is a limited Bushido-series rice whisky from Kumesen Distillery in Okinawa: indica-rice spirit distilled in 2001, aged 17 years in ex-bourbon casks, and bottled at 84 proof (42% ABV) in a run of 3,600. Seventeen years in American oak is what you taste as cinnamon, pecan pie, and a thick, oily chew. Worth a slow pour with friends.
Cinnamon, vanilla, molasses, and charred oak open the glass. The palate is chewy — pecan pie, toffee, stewed fruit, licorice, baking spice — with a long, sweet, nutty finish of orange-blossom honey, tangerine, and chocolate.
