Michter’s US1 Toasted Barrel Finish Rye Whiskey takes fully matured US*1 Kentucky rye at barrel strength and finishes it in a second barrel of 24-month air-dried wood, toasted and left uncharred so the extractives read as toffee and walnut rather than char. The 2023 limited release was bottled one cask at a time; the average strength was 108.9 proof. It has the spine for a spirit-forward cocktail.
Toffee, honey, and black walnut lead, with a curl of campfire behind them. Dark chocolate, salted caramel, cherry, and mint stand out on the palate, then rye spice and rounded oak close a full, lingering finish.
