New Riff 8 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey 100 Proof is the distillery's first widely released older take on its flagship high-rye mash — 65% corn, 30% rye, 5% malted barley — held back from the 2014 founding barrels. Unfiltered at 100 proof. Two distilling seasons went into the vatting, drawn from those early Newport barrels. Pour it over a large cube.
Cherries, dark berries, and spearmint open, then caramel, brown sugar, and cinnamon on an oily, tannic sip. Cedar, leather, and savory rye spice fill the middle. The finish is long: sweet cream, baked apple, and rich wood that stays balanced with the fruit.
