Nikka Coffey Grain Whisky is Japanese grain whisky from Miyagikyo Distillery in Sendai, distilled mostly from corn on Nikka's Coffey stills, 19th-century continuous stills that keep a creamy grain texture instead of stripping it. It is matured in refilled, remade, and re-charred American oak and bottled at 90 proof. That still is why tropical fruit, coconut, and vanilla show up so cleanly. This is a standing Nikka bottling. Keep it for a weeknight pour.
Ripe pear, coconut, and vanilla wafer lead, with banana, caramel, and honeyed citrus behind them. The mouthfeel is juicy and creamy. Pear, vanilla, and a pleasant bitter edge close a medium finish.
