Nikka Yoichi Single Malt Japanese Whisky is the flagship malt from Nikka's original 1934 distillery on the Hokkaido coast, distilled over direct coal fire and aged in the sea air off the Sea of Japan. Coal fire and peated malt are why smoke and brine show up; ex-sherry, ex-bourbon, and American oak casks fill in fruit and vanilla. It is bottled at 90 proof. This is Yoichi's core single malt. Give it a large cube.
Peat smoke and sea salt open beside orchard fruit and candied citrus. Malt, nuts, and vanilla fill a firm, silky body. The finish is long, with ripe pear, plum, apple, and a coastal fade.
