Nikka Yoichi Single Malt Japanese Whisky
Coastal whisky, through and through. Yoichi is made on Hokkaido, Japan's northern island, where the sea is never far, and the malt carries that address in every sip. Peat smoke drifts through the nose without dominating it, and a distinct salinity runs underneath, giving the whisky a savory edge that keeps pulling you back.
Maturation across ex-bourbon, sherry and new American oak casks builds out the sweeter side. Orchard fruit sits alongside bright citrus, while malt and vanilla fill in the body and soften the smoke as it fades. At 90 proof (45% ABV), it has real weight on the tongue but stays approachable, more supple than sharp.
This is a single malt with enough presence for a quiet evening and enough clarity to drink often. A large cube opens the fruit; neat keeps the smoke and salt front and center. The 750 mL bottle earns its spot on the shelf.
