NULU Amburana Cask Finished Bourbon Whiskey

Bottled at 70 proof (35% ABV), this is a bourbon that drinks gently. The lower strength keeps the sweetness forward and the heat low, so the whiskey opens up right away rather than needing coaxing.

Coconut is the first thing you notice, soft and a little creamy, with vanilla sitting just underneath it. Cinnamon comes in behind that, along with the kind of warm baking spice that rounds out the sweetness instead of cutting through it. The overall impression is dessert-leaning and easygoing, with the grain sweetness typical of bourbon carrying the whole thing along.

An amburana cask finish gives the whiskey its distinctive turn. Poured neat it works fine, but the sweet spice profile also holds its shape in a simple highball or over ice. The 750 mL bottle is an easy one to keep on the shelf for regular pouring.
