Orphan Barrel Copper Tongue 16 Year Old Cask Strength Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Orphan Barrel Copper Tongue 16 Year Old Cask Strength Straight Bourbon Whiskey comes from Cascade Hollow Distillery in Tullahoma, Tennessee, where Nicole Austin blended two sixteen-year lots of straight bourbon. Sixteen years in new charred American oak dropped the whiskey to a true cask strength of 89.8 proof (44.9% ABV), a soft barrel proof that follows from lower entry strength and single-story rickhouses. Almond, toffee, and candied orange are what that long, temperate aging puts on the palate. Pour it over a large cube.
Almond and toffee open with a floral lift, then candied orange, peach, and cedar ride the sip. Caramel, vanilla, and a hint of chocolate round a surprisingly gentle mouthfeel, and the finish stays long, sweet, and cedar-edged. It drinks mature without heat: Tennessee bourbon that still tastes of fruit after sixteen years.
