Parker’s Heritage Collection 10 Year Old Heavy Char Bourbon Whiskey is Heaven Hill’s 14th annual Parker’s release: the house bourbon mash of 78 percent corn, 10 percent rye, and 12 percent malted barley, aged ten years in Level 5 barrels blasted for ninety seconds instead of the usual forty. Those extra fissures pull caramel and maple from deeper in the stave. One hundred two barrels sat on the sixth floor of Rickhouse Y and were bottled at 120 proof without chill filtration. A portion of each sale still goes to ALS research in Parker Beam’s name. Give it a large cube.
Marmalade and caramel lead, then maple, clove, and cinnamon warm the sip. Dark chocolate and a light smoke show as it sits. The mouthfeel is rich and punchy for the proof; the finish is long and warm, with baking spice and a dry leather edge.
