This is a big, warm Kentucky bourbon with the volume turned up. Eleven years in new charred American oak have pulled the barrel deep into the whiskey, and at 122 proof it lands with weight rather than heat alone. Heavy spice hits early, then settles into caramel and vanilla that coat the tongue and stay there.
Underneath, raisin gives the whiskey a dark, sweet edge, and a thread of smoke runs through the oak on the finish. Because this comes from a single barrel at cask strength, nothing has been diluted or blended smooth — what went into the barrel in 2017 is what reaches the bottle.
A few drops of water will open the fruit if the proof feels tall, though it drinks well straight from a 750 mL pour into a heavy-bottomed rocks glass. Good company for a slow evening when you want something with real presence.
