Patrón Extra Añejo Tequila
Three years in American and French oak barrels is a long stretch for tequila, and it shows. This extra añejo comes from Blue Weber agave grown in the Jalisco Highlands, and the time in wood softens the spirit without burying what it started as.
Cooked agave still leads, sweet and vegetal, with vanilla and caramel settling in behind it. Dried fruit gives the palate some weight, and a little pepper and oak keep the finish from turning syrupy. At 80 proof it drinks easily, closer in feel to an aged brown spirit than to a young blanco.
It is additive free, so what you taste is agave and barrel and nothing else. The 750 mL bottle is an easy one to keep open on the shelf, and it is at its best poured neat at room temperature.
